Inters (Intermediate) is for dancers aged 11+, from Year 7. Dancers can take the Classic pathway, the Dynamic pathway or both.

How the trial worksA wider classical vocabulary develops strength, balance, flexibility and artistry. Lyrical work adds musical interpretation, storytelling and more complex choreography.
Dancers take exams when they are ready, so each has a clear goal and nobody is rushed.
Classic 3 runs on Friday as two separate groups in different studios. Your dancer joins one of them.
Progressive ISTD Modern and Tap training deepens technique, rhythm, artistry and performance quality. Exams and class awards give dancers focused goals.
Dancers take ISTD exams when they are ready. This short video shows what to expect, and the dance exams page has the details.
Option 1: Teal leotard, convertible ballet tights, ballet shoes with elastics and teal mesh contemporary dress.
Option 2: White ballet T-shirt or leotard, black cycle shorts or leggings, white ankle socks and white ballet shoes with elastics.
Option 1: Purple school leotard with black Lycra footless leggings.
Option 2: Purple fitted T-shirt with black cycle shorts or jazz pants.
All Dynamic dancers need tap shoes.
From age 14, Seniors covers the ISTD grades from Grade 4 upwards, through to Intermediate, with pointework and vocational routes.
Dancers from ISTD Grade 2 upwards learn classical repertoire with our Head of Ballet, Miss Melinda. The class runs on Saturdays, alongside core Ballet training.
