LLDS ACRO DANCE

Acro Dance at LLDS

Acro Dance classes will have the use of both studios opened up to create a huge space to learn the beautiful and creative art of Acro Dance. With our own tumble track and AcroPad these classes are not to be missed. Acro includes elements of acrobatics, gymnastics, partner work and dance. Our Acro classes are super fun and great for building confidence and trust when working together. Pupils learn and improve tumbling, flexibility, strength, balance and partner/group work. Classes begin at 3 years old, with our ACRO CIRQUE class which is designed to introduce physical literacy, coordination, creative movement and basic acrobatic skills with the thrill of circus tricks and themes to pupils aged four to six years.

At LLDS we combine Lyrical technique and Acro to create beautiful and creative dances which are always a favourite with our pupils.

Pupils must attend a CORE dance class to be eligible, either Dynamic or Classic for Acro Class One and Acro Class Two. Acro Class Three pupils must study Ballet as this level requires an increased level of technique and classical dance ability for the more complex dance sequences.

Why must my child attend dance classes alongside Acrobatic Arts?

Indeed, enrolling in dance classes alongside Acrobatic Arts is essential to the success of any aspiring acro dancer, given the level of artistry involved. Our weekly acrobatic arts training sessions concentrate on cultivating the strength and flexibility necessary for mastering advanced skills, thus reducing the allocated time for dance training. Consequently, taking dance classes is pivotal for the development of an acro dancer. Ideally, acrobatic arts should be complemented by ballet and/or Modern classes. Our instructional approach adheres to safe dance practices, ensuring that skills are acquired at the highest standard possible. Our dancers are trained to perform skills on both sides of their body, affording them creative freedom in choreography and seamless transitions from various angles.

Is Acrobatic Arts the same as Gymnastics?

It is imperative to differentiate between Acrobatic Arts and gymnastics. Gymnastics is recognised as a sport, whereas dance is celebrated as an art form.

Consequently, the approach to acrobatic skills diverges significantly. In gymnastics floor routines, dance technique is utilised to accentuate gymnastic prowess, with dance playing a subsidiary role. Gymnasts are expected to execute, tumble, and conclude. In contrast, Acro dancers are tasked with seamlessly incorporating their skills into a dance performance. In a well-choreographed Acro dance routine, the audience should not anticipate the execution of specific skills. Furthermore Acro dance is performed on a solid stage as a dance piece, as opposed to gymnasts who benefit from sprung floors that facilitate more high-risk tumbling and landings.
